The Art and Science Center is one place that is beautiful inside and out. A great learning environment, and even fun when such exhibits are displayed (Art of the Brick!). Its also in Marina Bay, and is close to great places such as Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. You might also want to bring money for souvenirs.

Cool Google and Mac Easter Eggs

1. Find out how the weather is... in nowhere.

How: Open up Dashboard first. If it’s not in your Dock, press Command-Space bar to open up Spotlight. Then type ‘Dashboard’, and click on the first result to open it. You should get a screen like this.

If you don’t have the little weather application at the top, click the plus, find the weather amongst all the other widgets (add some more if you want!) and then drag the weather widget to a convenient place. Now comes to the weather in Nowhere. Press command and option, and then click on the cloud/thunderstorm/sun on weather widget, all at once. That should lead to this (it may be a different weather):

Nice to know that there are places in the world where snow is still possible.... If you do the key combo+click again on the weather, then the weather changes, but it's still in nowhere.

2. This is for Lord of the Rings or Hobbit fans out there. (GATE RLA students, you know who you are!) Open Terminal, if it’s not in your Dock, do the regular spotlight search for it. In Terminal, copy the following command and paste it in.

cat /usr/share/calendar/calendar.lotr

Voila! You should have a complete list of all the important dates in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, not in chronological order, more like anniversary order. Enjoy!

3. Surprise Easter Egg!

This is on Google Maps, so non-Mac users can do it too. So, go to Google Maps. I suggest you zoom out totally. Then go down to Antarctica. At the northernmost point, in other words, here:

The green at the top is the south of South America.

Now, once you're zoomed in, drag the orange peg man out from the top of the zoom thingamajig. 

You should see all the regular little blue rectangles which, if you drag the person onto you can see pictures people took at those locations. It should look like this:

Follow the directions.

Watch the magic!

4. (Google Maps) Walk from the Shire to Mordor! (Lord of the Rings)

Click on 'Get Directions' on Google Maps, in the side bar. In 'A' type 'The Shire'. In 'B' type  'Mordor'. Under ANY condition DO NOT click on any of the options provided. Click out of the options on a totally random place, just not the option. Ok, after that is done, over the text spaces, click on the walking icon instead of the car one. Then click get directions, and read the text below. Enjoy!

5. (Google) A graph. 

Copy and paste the following into Google search and look at what follows. Hint: easter eggs!

That Moment of Hope

Before you start writing, do you ever have that moment of hope? Maybe this- this will be the story that will reach the description of 'amazing;. Maybe this will win you a Noble Peace Prize. (Good joke, me) Or maybe this will be a giant fail- no, don't think of that. This will be the one. This will catapult me to writer-dom. When I poise my fingers just in the correct starting position, I feel them tremble. Who knows, maybe a masterpiece will flow from them.

That is usually not the case.

What usually flows from my fingers is a jumble of words that are vaguely coherent but just vaguely. The lowest setting on vagueness possible. Usually, when I look back at the page, what stares back is never a masterpiece and always just a bunch of black lines on white. And I know that's exactly what the reader (if there is one) will see it as. They'll look at it briefly, then throw it back to join the ever-growing pile. There- I see you. You're already forgetting what I said. Congratulations. You've just achieved the typical reader award!

The Singapore Science Center is not just for science nerds and geeks. A fun place to discover science, robotics, or just mess around, it houses several exhibits, including traveling exhibits and a water-park outside. A big hub rests in the middle with a voltage show and other gadgets like air cannons. Also has a shop with gizmos and science things, like globs, crystal stones, and lab kits. With many interactive activities and shows, its definitely one of the most fun museums for all kids.

YongPyong Resort is a five-star ski and snowboard resort, boasting powdery slopes, great services and diverse courses ranging in difficulty, from extreme sports for professionals, to slides fit for those who never wore a pair of skis before. It also is famous for its scenery and being the filming location of a famous Korean romance movie. And if you’re someone who doesn’t like to ski, but wants to wait and chill in a cafeteria instead, they have many small restaurants, shops, and cafes right next to the slopes. 3-2-1, Action! by Amira F.

With only one day left until opening night, the cast of Fame is busily preparing for the big day. The actors and actresses love to goof around when they’re not practicing. Even though they have fun at every rehearsal, Mrs. Fulcher, director, makes sure they stay on task. I’ve been behind the scenes of this year’s Middle School Play to interview the cast and show you what everyone’s up to!
From big hair bows to off-shoulder tops, the cast will definitely be in character! Set in high school in the 1980’s, a group of teens and young adults audition for a chance to achieve their goals at the New York School for Performing Arts. How will they achieve those goals you ask? Well, you’ll have to see the play yourself to find out.

Keep reading for our interview with Bryce Yoder who plays Ralph, one of the lead roles.

How are you enjoying the play?
“It’s awesome. It’s a great bonding experience with people I don't usually socialize with.”How long did it take you to learn all your lines?
“About a month and a half.”
How much sleep  have you been getting since rehearsals?
“Six hours.”
What is the hardest part about your role?
“There’s a lot of adult situations that I have to deal with.”
Who is the quietest kid in the cast?
“Dorris,” he says, referring to Mika Martin (left) who plays the lead role.
What’s your costume like?
“It’s kind of funky, I guess.”
How is Ms. Fulcher?
“She’s interesting. She’s a good director but it’s specific.”What’s your favorite song?
“Lunchroom Jam.”
What are you most nervous about for opening night?
“Forgetting my lines.”

Anyway, Ms. Fulcher and the entire cast of Fame hopes to see you at the the showings below. If you see a member passing in the hall, wish them luck, or in drama terms, “break a leg!”
